How do you care for your natural hair?
Although your hair is free of chemicals; it must still be treated with "TLC", that is using a conditioner after shampooing the hair and a monthly deep conditioner.  Trimming the dead ends is essential to keep the hair healthy.  Hot oil treatments work well, a natural oil treatment many people use is in your kitchen. Use half a cup of olive oil, massage deeply, then use a heat cap preferably, if not, the a good ol shower cap will do.  Leave in hair for 15-30 minutes.  Rinse excess oil out of hair, then style as usual.

Always use a wide tooth comb to comb through conditioner, try to avoid combing the hair so much while dry, as this cause the hair to break.

Oils for the hair should be as natural as possible. Although brushing the hair with vaseline keeps your hair slick, the heaviness of the vaseline will keep dirt and dust in the hair.  So we don't want to use heavy pomades such as these to keep the hair slick.

How to transition from permed hair to natural hair?
I will share my own experience.  When I decided to not perm my hair any longer, I cut out the excess perm, but when you do decide to switch, you should gradually cut away the perm, and get hair conditioned, to keep the permed hair from breaking while the natural hair is growing in.  Natural hair is stronger.  I used Jojoba shampoo and conditioner, and kept my hair braided in a fish braid, and on the weekends if I wasn't going out, I would braid my hair two platt braids.  This made my hair grow fast, due to the fact that I let it rest.  This style gives the hair a rest.  Also, for health reasons most shampoos have parabens in them, but if you can find one's that don't have this ingredient would be healthier for your hair and your body.  So try to avoid anything in that seeps into your body such as parabens.  Example: methyparaben, very popular in a lot of hair products.

Tools that should be used on natural hair.
1) Boar Hair bristle (100% natural)
-NEVER USE THE NYLON BRISTLES; THEY ARE TO HARSH ON THE HAIR AND BREAK
     THE HAIR.
2) Use Wooden combs; not the plastic ones
3) Use silk scarfs-cotton drys the hair out
4) Silk pillowcases are always best as the hair will glide while you sleep.

Other products that work well on natural hair is Infusion shampoo and conditioner
Paul Mitchell products are excellent for natural hair. The Leave-in-Conditioner is excellent.

Recently, I've been using one of my products on my hair is making my hair grow quickly, this is the shea butter, does not have a pleasant scent, but it's effective.  Request a free sample, and let us know how this product is working for you.

What if you don't want to perm your hair any longer, but you want to hot comb it?
Well hot combs are harsh on the hair as well, but this is your choice.  When you have this done, make sure you have your hair washed and treated during this process. Comb should not be so hot that when applied to your hair, you could hear your hair burning-this means the comb is too hot.

How I grow my natural hair is I was and condition it every three weeks, braid it in plaits, oil my scalp.  I have a customer that comes into the store and swears by the olive oil treatment, comes in a little bottle, and would be in the black haircare section.
Renee, Winston Salem, NC

i wash my hair with a mild shampoo twice a week and immediately after deep condition with cholesterol. i allow it to dry naturally then apply some oil to the scalp and hair ends, then i plait it. TCB hair conditioning oil works well for me. Masozi, Germany

This response is to Constance from Winter Park Florida, are you sporting an afro, if so, maybe try not to blow dry it, but let it dry naturally. Leaving the hair alone does wonders. Also, I found a queen Nefertiti grow hair long hair pomade that proclaims to grow your hair, I will post it tomorrow. Glenda, NY

I use tea tree with shea butter hairdress and when I braid my hair to keep it moist proclaim 7 essential oils I found in Sally's.
I use 2 eggs, mayonnaise with 7oils/olive oil blend together and put on my hair first .Then put a plastic cap and wait 20 minutes no heat. then rinse . shampoo once. put creme of nature lemongrass and kiwi left in conditioner or blue dushess oil moisturizer. I have bee blow drying my hair with a blow dryer with a comb on the end. I realized my hair gets dry and brittle. I have to figure out something else. I have really thin fine hair. I have a color neutral black . shampoos with lauryl sulfate fade out dyes. I wish I could grow big hair. My hair breaks so easy because it's fine. Only reason I dye is because I have gray roots. I am only in my 40's.I will accept any suggestions . I usually braid or twist my own hair. Constance, Winter Park, FL

I just recently purchased a hair grease called grow your hair long by queen Nefertiti, this stuff really works, has natural herbs, i have a pillow underneath that shows that my hair is growing.  I wash my hair every 2-3 weeks, put this grow your hair long, braid in two platts especially on the weekends, do a deep conditioner 1x a month. Florence, NY

I have loc's and I make my own haircare products. I think less is more so I stick to natural oils and butters, like shea and olive oil.
I started my loc's with braids and I maintain them with the latch hook method. Periodically, I will twist the roots and dye my hair, but for the most part, I take care of my new growth 1x a month. I wash my hair with African black soap or a shampoo bar that I make and rub either olive oil or shea butter on hair while damp. Nay, Kingston, NY

Shea moisture from target I used coconut and hibiscus shampoo/black soap balancing conditioner they are great for dry hair and scalp.  They have products for all types of hair.  I wash my hair every two weeks and condition it.  Second wash I deep treat it with deep masque hair conditioner from shea moisture. Jasmine, Long Island, NY

I have locs and I love using natural products to moisturize such as Shea Butter (straight from the Motherland), olive oil (pure). Coconut oil (pure), Almond Oil (pure) and or aloe from the plant.  I also rinse with Apple Cider Vinegar, all of these things reduce build-up on the scalp and allow the hair to grow.  B-More, Tennessee

I've been natural for about a month now :) (did the big chop) I have about 2 inches of hair and a product line that works extremely well for me is Carol's Daughter. I usually wash my hair twice a week, and everyday I moisturize with Carol Daughter's hair milk, or shea butter, both leave my hair moisturized and soft all day. Myra, California

I love the line of products from Afroceutical. My favorites are Crisis Pro-Revitalizer, Healthy Tresses and Follicles, their herbal oils, and a moisturizer/setting lotion called Soft N Curly. They are available online at www.afroceutical.com.  Shelette, Ohio

I use jojoba oil, tea tree oil, olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and vitamin E. I also wash with pure african black soap. I deep condition with root stimulator hair mayonnaise. Hot oil treatment with extra virgin olive oil with 1 tsp of tea tree oil and mix together. For curls I use eco-styler gel or world of curls gel. Please share with us; your natural hair care regimen. I wash and condition 1x a week. Deep Condition 1x a month. Hot oil treatment 2x a month. My hair is TWA and been natural for 3 months :) After I wash my hair, I use Hawaiian silky leave-in conditioner, eco-styler gel or word of curls gel, coconut oil and jojoba oil that combo always makes my hair soft and shiny :) I rarely use a comb I like to use my fingers.
